This is a collection of shorter fiction, from an author who admits he finds such lengths a challenge.
It really does cover his career, ordered chronologically from his first published works (back when magazines bought and featured short fiction) through to the time when this book was released. It ends almost exclusively with Discworld stories.
The snippets about when, why and the inspiration for each of the pieces is insightful.
They vary in length a fair amount, some no more than a few paragraphs, while others stretch to several chapters. The subject matter is equally diverse.
Throughout them all are Pratchett’s hilarious undertones and observations. His tongue must have been firmly in his cheek whenever and whatever he wrote.
I’m not a huge fan of short fiction, but these were fun and easy to get through.
